The octogenarian at the wheel looked at him coyly... "Yes, I did,

☼

about how coffee made him nervous.
I said why don't you quit drinking coffee.
He said, "because if I didn't have the shakes I wouldn't get any exercise

"Well, I knew sooner or later some idiot would ask me.
So I measured it!" replied the carpenter.

He showed up at the appointed time and place with all his financial
records, then sat for what seemed like hours as the accountant pored
over them.
Finally the IRS agent looked up and commented,
"You must have been a tremendous fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle."
"Why would you say that?" wondered the broker.
"Because you've made more brilliant deductions on your last three
returns than Sherlock Holmes made in his entire career."

☼
~~ Q: What's definition of a good tax accountant?
A: Someone who has a loophole named after him.

~~ Gus and Pete went into a diner that looked as though it had seen

better days.
As they slid in to a booth, Gus wiped some crumbs from the seat.
Then he took a napkin and wiped some mustard from the table.
The waitress, in a dirty uniform, came over and asked if they wanted
some menus.
"No thanks," said Gus, "I'll just have a cup of black coffee."
"I'll have black coffee, too," Pete said.
"And please make sure the cup is clean."
The waitress shot him a nasty look.
She turned and marched off in to the kitchen.
Two minutes later, she was back.
"Two cups of black coffee," she announced.
"Which one of you wanted the clean cup?"

the reporter approached a man standing alone in a corner.
"So," said the journalist, "have you heard the latest joke about the

The man pinned him with a steely gaze.
"Before you tell it, I must inform you that I work for the White House."
"Thanks for the warning," rejoined the reporter. "I'll tell it slowly."

~~ When a friend's mother was hospitalized, we decided to lift her spirits
by smuggling in her toy poodle for a visit.
I wrapped the dog in an infant blanket and nervously carried the "baby"
against my shoulder down the corridor.
Into the elevator we went, without a peep from the dog.
But just as we reached our floor, she popped her head out of the blanket
and panted into the face of the well-dressed man beside me.
Grinning, he quipped, "Takes after her father, right?"

☺
~~ I was walking to lunch with my friend Phil and discussing the need
to start an exercise program.
A mutual friend, Pete, joined us on the walk and after listening to Phil
and I talk about fitness, Pete said, "I'm exercising every day."
"You're exercising?" we asked. "Daily?"
"Yeah!" he replied.
"I swim after work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
And I run on Tuesdays and Thursdays."
We stopped walking, and I asked Pete, "How long have you been
doing this?"
"Oh, I don't start until next week!" he replied.

☼
~~ We were eating at one of the trendier restaurants in town when
my friend pointed to the menu and told the waitress, "I'll have the 24."
"Uh, Jim," I whispered, "that's the price, not the meal number."
"Oh," he said. "Then give me the 12."

~~ On Valentine's Day, we took the bus to our favorite restaurant.
An elderly gentleman boarded with a bouquet of roses.
He sat next to the young man across from us.
"Some lucky lady is going to get a beautiful Valentine's Day gift,"
remarked the young man.
"Yes, I'm bringing them to my wife," the older man said.
"Do you have a sweetheart?"
"I do," the younger man replied.
"I'm giving her a card.
It's all I could afford."
When the bus slowed to let the elderly man off, he put the bouquet in
the young man's lap.
"My wife would want you to have them."
"Thanks!" the young man said.
The gentleman got off and walked through the gates of a cemetery.

that is in it.
The cat that sits down on a hot stove lid will never sit down on a hot

☼
~~ My wife and I were at my high school reunion.
As I looked around, I noticed the other men in their expensive suits with
their bulging stomachs.
Proud of the fact that I weighed just five pounds more than I did when
I was in high school, the result of trying to beat a living out of a rocky
hillside farm, I said to my wife, "I'm the only guy here who can wear the
suit he graduated in."
She glanced at the prosperous crowd.
"You're the only one here who has to."

As a former Michigan resident, though, I also keep tabs on Michigan

"Gee, I don't know," I replied.
"I'm kind of torn between Church and State."

~~ This little old lady went to the store to purchase some dog food

where she was informed by the clerk that there was a policy in place
on old ladies purchasing dog food.
Apparently they've had old ladies go in and buy the food for their pets
and eat it themselves, so they now need to bring proof.
A little ticked, the old lady went back home, got her precious pooch,
and returned to the store, then they sold her the dog food.
She returned to the store the following day to purchase food for her cat
and was advised of the same policy only with cats.
So, the lady stormed out of the store and returned shortly after with her
spiteful Whiskies and was approved to purchase the cat food.
The next day, the old lady went back yet again to the store; only this time,
she was carrying a small black container.
She brought it directly to the clerk and requested that she stick her hand
inside of it.
"Why? What's in it?" the clerk asked.
"Just put your hand in here," the old lady demanded.
"No thank you, how do I know there's nothing in it that won't chomp on
me?"
"I can assure you, there's nothing in it that will bite you!"
After briefly hesitating, the clerk gave in and put her hand in the container
and felt the contents.
She immediately pulled them out to examine them screamed.
Standing on the other side of the counter, the old lady was smiling and
asked "do I have your approval now to purchase some toilet paper?"
(Don't fool around with old people!)

~~ Q: What makes a man think about a candlelight dinner?
A: A power failure.

~~ Arnold is out doing some shopping when he meets Lionel.
They haven't seen each other for many years.
"So what are you doing with yourself these days, Lionel?" asks Arnold.
"Well," replies Lionel, "I used to work for a bank but I retired last year."
"Lucky old you," says Arnold, "so what do you do with yourself all day?"
"I get up late each morning," replies Lionel, "have my breakfast and then
lie down on my veranda and relax.
At midday I go inside for some lunch.
Then I go outside and lie on my veranda again.
At the end of the day, I have dinner and drink only the finest of wines.
Then I light up a good cigar.
Later on, I go lie on my veranda again.
"Wow," says Arnold, "that sounds fantastic to me.
I envy you.
Please God I should make enough money to retire soon."
When Arnold gets home, he tells his wife Nancy all about his
conversation with Lionel.
After hearing Arnold's story, Nancy asks, "Did he tell you his wife's
name?"
"I'm not sure," replies Arnold, "but I think it's Veranda."

☺
~~ Ethel, a little old lady with a lovely smile, makes a living selling roses
on a street corner for $2.00 a rose.
Fred, on the other hand, works for a bank in the same street and is
doing very well for himself.
Fred has always felt sorry for Ethel and whenever he leaves his office f
or lunch and passes Ethel, he always gives her $2.00.
But Fred never takes a rose from her and although this has been going
on for two years, the two of them have never spoken to each other.
One day, as Fred passes Ethel and leaves his usual $2.00 Ethel speaks
to him for the first time.
"I appreciate your business, sir.
You really are my best customer, but I must point out to you that the
price of a rose has now gone up to $2.50."

☺
~~ Q: What's purple and surrounded by water?
A: Grape Britain.

☺
~~ (my Mom used to do this...)
Before the cleaning lady arrives it is necessary to vacuum the entire
house and straighten up all the rooms because she works for friends
of yours the other six days of the week, and you don't want her to tell
them how you really live.

☺
~~ A lawyer died and arrived at the pearly gates.
To his dismay, there were thousands of people ahead of him in line to
see St. Peter.
But, to his surprise, St. Peter left his desk at the gate and came down
the long line to where the lawyer was standing.
St. Peter greeted him warmly.
Then St. Peter and one of his assistants took the lawyer by the hands
and guided him up to the front of the line into a comfortable chair by
his desk.
The lawyer said, "I don't mind all this attention, but what makes me so
special?"
St. Peter replied, "Well, I've added up all the hours for which you billed
your clients, and by my calculation you must be about 193 years old!"

☺
~~ The woman who has a gift for old age, is the woman who delights
in comfort.
If warmth is known as the blessing it is, if your bed, your bath, your
best-liked food and drink are regarded as fresh delights,
then you know how to thrive when old.

☺
~~ A man walks into a bar, sits down, and says to the guy next to him,
"Hey, you wanna hear a great Polish joke?"
"Listen, pal," the guy replies.
"I'm Poland's kick-boxing champion.
My two friends here are both world-ranked judo masters, and they're
Polish, too......... Now, you still want to tell that joke?"
"Nah," the man replies, "I don't feel like explaining it three times."

☺
~~ Not expecting to do at all well in the economics exam,
Darrell, was heartened by the first question: In any given year, and to
the nearest ton, how much wheat did the United States export?
Smiling confidently, Darrell wrote, "1492; none."

~~ Gus awakes and, as he's been doing now for over 50 years,

he immediately goes into the bathroom to get ready to go to work.
But 15 minutes later, he's still in the bathroom and it's no surprise that
his wife finally hammers on the door and shouts out,
"What on earth are you doing in there,Gus?
Why are you taking so long?"
It's simple ," Gus shouts back.
"As I get balder and balder, it's taking me longer and longer to wash
my face."

~~ Pete was shopping for digestive enzymes at the drugstore.
He picked up a bottle of pills that had a warning sticker on it.
Not understanding the warning, Pete approached the pharmacist and
her two assistants to ask if they thought it was safe for him to take the
pills, given that he was lactose intolerant.
The drugstore employees looked confused, so he showed them the
label.
It read: Do not take if lactating.
The pharmacist patiently explained toPete that chances were he was
not breastfeeding.

~~ Two friends were standing in a bank when a pair of robbers entered.
Not only did the thieves clean out the tills, but they walked around with
bags and ordered everyone to throw their valuables in.
Just as the robbers got to the pair, one of the friends turned to the
other and, passing him a bill, said,
"By the way, Joe, here's that twenty bucks I owe you."

☼
~~ Driving home after school one day, my nine-year-old son Gabe,
was telling me that his class had had a guest speaker, a police officer,
who spoke about bullying.
Gabe said the officer told the students that out of a group of ten bullies,
six would eventually end up in jail.
I asked my son what he thought the lesson was.
"Don't be one of the six!" he exclaimed.

☼
~~ There was the ghetto school that was so badly underfunded that
the only hot lunches were those that were stolen.

☼
~~ John and I were best friends, but I wasn't fond of his pesky,
tagalong little sister, Ginger.
Then one weekend during college John asked a favor.
His girlfriend, Millie, wasn't allowed to see him alone.
Would I double date? Amazingly, all the girls we knew were busy.
"I'll ask Ginger!" he said.
Me and the pest?
No way!
John called her anyway.
Would you go out with Bill?" he asked.
Ginger was as appalled as I was at the idea.
But she came on the date as a favor to Millie.
We went to a movie and to my surprise, Ginger was lots of fun.
How had I never noticed how pretty she was?
Ginger and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary.
It must have been hard work for those angels keeping every other
girl in town busy that night.
One day I'll thank them for their trouble.

☼
~~ Did you hear about the irish team that attempted to scale
Mt. Everest?
Unfortunately they ran out of scaffolding 30 feet from the top.

☼
~~ "I don't know," the world-famous novelist said to his editor.
"I just don't think my newer books are as good as my earlier works."
"Rubbish," the understanding editor replied, "your writing is the same
as it ever was....... It's your taste that's improved."

☼
~~ Our copier was on the fritz so I put a note on it:
"Service has been called."
When the technician told me he had to order parts,
I added a second note: "Parts have been ordered."
During the next five days, when we had to use an older,
slower copier on the other side of the building,
someone taped a third note to the machine:
"Prayers have been said."
