The owl's getting breakfast......

~~ Gus: Can owls see on very dark nights?

Pete: Yes, but they have a lot of trouble holding the flashlight.

~~ One day,Carol and Rae are talking about men.
"I have a question for you," says Carol.
"So ask it, already," said Rae.
"Ok," says Carol "If I meet a stranger at a party and I think that
he's attractive, do you think it's OK to ask him straight away
whether he's married?"
"No, certainly not," replies Rae, "you should wait until morning."

~~ Young Father O'Reilly, newly ordained, was to hear his first
confessions.
Anxious to get his ministry off on the right foot, he asked the
experienced Father McMartin to sit in and critique his handling
of the assignment.
At the end of the day the two clergymen sat in the rectory and
reviewed O'Reilly's performance.
"Not bad," McMartin said, with a catch in his voice.
Weighing his words with care, he went on, "But there is one thing.
In the future, I think you should make an effort to say
'I understand' instead of 'Oh wow!'

~~ PATIENT: I snore so loud, Doctor, I can't fall asleep.
What should I do?
DOCTOR: Sleep in the next room.

~~ "Hey, Mom," asked Ralph. "will you lend me five dollars?"
"Certainly not."
"If you do," he went on, "I'll tell you what dad said to the maid
when you were at the beauty shop."
The woman's ears perked and, grabbing her pocketbook,
she handed over the money.
"Well? What did he say?"
"He said, "Hey, Marion, make sure you do my socks tomorrow."

~~  "A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man
who stops a clock to save time." ~Henry Ford~

~~ An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had
hammered his ship into the runway really hard.
The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand
at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them
a ‘Thanks for flying our airline.’
He said that, in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time
looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would
have a smart comment.
Finally everyone had gotten off except for a little old lady walking
with a cane. She said, ‘Sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?’‘
Why, no, Ma’am,’ said the pilot.
‘What is it?’
The little old lady said, ‘Did we land, or were we shot down?’

~~ Q: Why should you count your money on your toes?
A: So it doesn' slip through your fingers.

~~ The second grade daughter of a co-worker of mine often
reads books that are meant for older children.
Her mother wondered if she actually understood these books,
so she read half of one herself and then asked her daughter
what it was about.
Pleased by the well-informed response, she handed the book
back
The next day after school, the child returned home and proudly
presented the book to her mother.
"It was due today," she said, "but I told the librarian you hadn't
finished reading it and asked if I could keep it for another week."

~~ QUESTION: What did the stamp say to the envelope?
ANSWER: Stick with me and we'll go places!

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.

three branches of government.

~~ Education can get you the only thing that really matters in
today's world............. an assigned parking space.

~~ My four-year-old asked if his best friend, a five-year-old girl,
could spend the night.
I said she could.
Shortly after she arrived they began to fight, so I stepped in
and insisted they apologize and make up.
When my son refused, his friend said,
"Well, I guess this means I have to sleep on the couch!"

~~ While 75% of chocolate purchases are made by women all
year long, during the days and minutes before Valentine's Day,
75% of the chocolate purchases are made by men.

~~ The last to board the plane from Seattle to Dallas were a
woman and three children.
Before I knew it, two of the children were climbing over me while
the woman and her four-year-old son sat behind.
Almost immediately the young boy next to me kept asking his
sister.
"Where are we now?"
I sighed to myself and thought, "I'll never get any work done."
Having heard the "Where-are-we-now?" question repeatedly,
I turned to the children, showed them the in-flight magazine map,
explained our flight path and estimated when we would land in
Dallas.
Soon they were telling me about their trip to Seattle to see their
father who was in the hospital.
As we traveled, they asked many questions and I soon forgot all
about my work.
As we were preparing to land, I asked how their father was doing.
They grew quiet and the boy simply said, "He died."
Oh I'm so sorry," I said.
I suddenly realized that what we'd been doing was the most
important work anyone could ever face: living, loving and growing
in spite of heartbreak.
When we said good-bye in Dallas the boy shook my hand and
thanked me for being his "airline teacher"
And I thanked him for being mine.

~~ Did you hear about the silly camper who bought a sleeping bag?
He spent three weeks trying to wake it up.

~~ Son: Dad, what is an idiot?
An idiot is a person who tries to explain his ideas in such a
strange and long way that another person who is listening to him
can't understand him.
Do you understand me?
Son: No.

~~ An employment website boasted that it provided training,
counseling, and placement services.
What's more, "many services are available in Spanish,
and we arrange interrupters."

~~ During a visit to our friend's home in Canada, we were feted
with a wonderful breakfast.
But my six-year-old daughter was not impressed.
"Your pancakes are smaller than my mom's," she told him.
He replied "That's because of the exchange rate."

then to give a thought for the other fellow.
He could be plotting something.

~~ Gus: When I was a sparring partner for the heavyweight

champion, I gave him the biggest scare of his life.
Phil: You gave the champion a big scare?
Gus: Yes -- he thought he killed me.

~~ When my eight-year-old daughter asked me where she
came from, I decided it was time to have a chat about the facts
of life.
I handled the matter tactfully and was mentally patting myself
on the back when she looked at me with a puzzled expression:
"But Olga says she comes from Russia."

~~ My friend, a grocery store manager, chased a shoplifter
through dry goods and frozen foods before catching the perp
with a flying tackle in cleaning supplies.
That's when my friend noticed that all of the customers in line
at the cash registers were staring.
"Everything's fine, folks," he assured them.
"This guy just tried to go through the express lane with more
than ten items."

~~ Gus asked his friend, Pete, whether he had bought his wife
anything for Valentine's Day.
'Yes,' came the answer from Pete who was a bit of a chauvinist,
'I've bought her a belt and a bag.'
'That was very kind of you,' Gus added, 'I hope she appreciated
the thought.'
Pete smiled as he replied, 'So do I,
and hopefully the vacuum cleaner will work better now.'

~~ Men are attracted to women with a raspy voice.
We think, hey, maybe she's all done yelling.

~~ My arm started to hurt me so I asked the doctor to
examine it.
She looked at my arm and brought out a medical book
and studied it for 15 minutes.
Then she said to me, "Have you ever had that pain
before?"
I said, "Yes."
She said, "Well, you've got it again.

~~ My friend, an Air Force Academy graduate, still retains a
strict military code of ethics as well as a quick wit.
One day his daughter mentioned that she was thinking about
getting my bellybutton pierced.
"No way!" my father fired back.
"This is an Air Force family -- no navel destroyers are allowed!"

~~ Pete told me last night he has started drinking brake fluid.
He reckons he can stop any time, though.

~~ Back when I was in the military and stationed in Alaska,
I was assigned to do the welcoming briefing to all new people at
Elmendorf AFB.
I just loved to piss off Texans.
I would always open my breifing with "How many here are from
Texas?"
Texas being such a large state there were always at least 2 or 3
from there.
And you know how proud those Texans are of their large state
"everything's bigger in Texas"
As soon as I saw those hands, I would say...
"Did you know that at one time they were considering cutting
Alaska in half and making Texas the THIRD Largest State?"

~~ "What's the difference between a Martian and a pottfer?"
"What's a pottfer?"

Good Morning...Friends and neighbors.....
Cold and snow on the way.....
§

This mornings sunrise...but now overcast...
§

Groundhog Day is a popular tradition in the United States.

It is also a legend that traverses centuries, its origins clouded in
the mists of time with ethnic cultures and animals awakening
on specific dates.
It is the day that the Groundhog comes out of his hole after a
long winter sleep to look for his shadow.
If he sees it, he regards it as an omen of six more weeks of bad
weather and returns to his hole.
If the day is cloudy and, hence, shadowless,
he takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground.
( Update...6 more weeks of winter. )

~~ A Sunday school teacher asked her little children,

as they were on the way to church service,
"And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."

§
~~ A man was speeding down the highway, feeling secure in a
gaggle of cars all traveling at the same speed.
However, as they passed a speed trap,
he got nailed with an infrared speed detector and was pulled over.
The officer handed him the citation, received his signature and
was about to walk away when the man asked,
"Officer, I know I was speeding, but I don't think it's fair -
there were plenty of other cars around me going just as fast,
so why did *I* get the ticket?"
"Ever go fishing?" the policeman suddenly asked the man.
"Ummm, yeah..." the startled man replied.
The officer grinned and added, "Ever catch *all* the fish?"

§
~~ My favorite classroom story concerns a young third-grade
girl who came to school one morning all excited.
She explained that things were really different at their house
now because her grandfather had come to live with them.
Then, she said, "And he's sterile, you know!"
The teacher thought for a moment and then replied,
"You mean senile, don't you?"
The child replied, "That too."

§
~~ How about a constitutional amendment that declares
anything said in a campaign commercial to be under oath?

§
~~ A guy goes into a restaurant wearing a shirt open at the
collar and is met by a bouncer who tells him he must wear a
necktie to gain admission.
So the guy goes out to his car and he looks around for a
necktie and discovers that he just doesn't have one.
He sees a set of jumper cables in his trunk.
In desperation he ties these around his neck, manages to
fashion a fairly acceptable looking knot and lets the ends dangle
free.
He goes back to the restaurant and the bouncer carefully looks
him over for a few minutes and then says, "Well,
OK, I guess you can come in - just don't start anything."

§
~~ "Son, I'm worried about your being at the bottom of the class."
"Pop, they teach the same stuff at both ends!"

~~ A woman went to the airport for a flight to Omaha.
She joined the long line at the security checkpoint for Concourse
B, and waited.
By the time she reached the head of the line, it was clear that
she would miss her flight if it took off as scheduled.
The guard took a look at her ticket, and said, "I'm sorry.
You've got a problem here."
"Yes," she sighed.
"It looks like I won't make this flight to Omaha."
"No," the guard explained.
"This is the line for missing the flight to Houston.
The line for missing your flight to Omaha is at Concourse C."

§
~~ A school kid asks his teacher, "It is true that the law of
gravity keeps us on Earth?"
The teacher says, "Yes"
The kid then asks, "What kept us before the law was passed?"

§
~~ A husband took his young daughter to the grocery store to
help him buy groceries.
In addition to the healthy items on his wife's carefully prepared list,
the two of them returned home with a package of sugar-filled
cookies.
"Why in the world did you buy those?" his wife asked.
"You know they aren't good for you!"
"Oh, but don't worry, honey, these cookies have one-third less
calories than usual in them," the husband replied.
The wife looked all over the package but couldn't find any claim
to that fact, so she asked, "What makes you think that?"
"We ate about a third of the box on the way home."

§
~~ Q. What's cold, white, and holds it side when it runs?
A. Frosty with a hernia.

~~ One night a torrential downpour soaked South Louisiana.

The next morning the resulting floodwaters came up about
6 feet into most of the homes there.
Mrs. Boudreaux was sitting on her roof with her neighbor,
Mrs. Thibodaux, waiting for help to come.
Mrs. Thibodaux noticed a lone baseball cap floating near
the house.
Then she saw it float far out into the front yard, then float all the
way back to the house.
It kept floating out, then back, out and back.
Her curiosity got the best of her, so she asked Mrs. Boudreaux,
"Do you see that baseball cap floating away from the house and
then back again?"
Mrs. Boudreaux said, "Oh yes, that's my husband.
I told him he was going to cut the grass today,
come Hell or High Water!!"

~~ Did you hear about the guy who found out the secret to
making women happy?
No?, neither did I.

~~ Roger got to the broken down inn and asked for a room.
"I have only one room left," said the innkeeper.
"But before I give it to you, I have to tell you that room is where
the white-eyed ghost lives."
Roger wasn't worried. "I'll take the room, he said.
"I'm not afraid of ghosts."
That night when Roger went to bed, he heard a scary "Boooooo!
I am the white-eyed ghost...
"Shut up, said Roger...... "I'm tired."
"Boooooooo!" the ghost said again. "I am the white-eyed ghost!"
Roger sat up, reached over, picked up a chair and threw it at
the ghost, who disappeared.
Roger laid down again and shut his eyes.
"Booooooooo!" moaned the voice from the darkness.
"I am the black-eyed ghost..."

~~ Thanks to the automatic teller machine, we no longer have
to tell children that money doesn't grow on trees.
They now think it comes out of a wall.

~~ Gus: What was my name two days ago?
Bobbie: Gus...
Gus: What was my name yesterday?
Bobbie: Gus
Gus: Knock-knock.
Bobbie: Who's there?
Gus: See? You've forgotten me already.

~~ "What do you say when a Martian walks up to you with a
death- ray gun?"
"I give up."
"That's right! Only you say it faster."

~~ A husband stepped on one of those 25 cent scales that tell
you your fortune and weight and dropped in a coin.
"Listen to this," he said to his wife, showing her a small,
white card.
"It says I'm energetic, bright, resourceful and a great lover."
"Yeah," his wife nodded, "and it has your weight wrong, too."

~~ At the UPS cargo phone center where I worked,
a woman called and said, "I need a baseball quote."
I immediately answered with Yogi Berra's famous;
"It ain't over 'til it's over!"
There was a brief moment of silence before the woman asked,
"What was that?"
"You asked me for a baseball quote," I responded,
"and that was the first thing that came into my head."
"Oh," she replied.
"My husband told me to call and get a baseball quote."
I asked if she wanted to ship something, and she said she did.
Then it dawned on me:
"Do you mean you want a ballpark figure?"

~~ A teacher's constant task is to take a roomful of live wires
and see to it that they're grounded.

~~ We were expecting holiday guests and I was anxious to
make our house as festive as possible.
Every time I went to the mall, the miniature Dickens-era village
under our Christmas tree grew.
I added a train station, chocolate shop, toy store and bakery.
Then I enhanced the cultural life of the village with a school and
a gazebo for band concerts.
After one especially productive shopping trip,
I put in a restaurant where the imaginary villagers could have
Sunday brunch after attending services at the new church.
Pleased, I rearranged the newest pieces and said to my husband,
"Do you know what this village really needs?"
"Yes I do," he answered crisply.
"It needs a board of trustees to enact zoning laws to contain
expansion."

Todays Thought:  Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
